  Dana is a Grateful Body!

I know it's all good for me . . .

Grateful Body note:
Dana Zed is the January Artist-in-Residence at the De Young Museum, San Francisco, CA. Her interactive installation is called House of Mirror Reflections, open January 4 to January 29 (Wednesday thru Sunday, 1-5 pm, a free-to-the-public program in the Kimball Gallery Artist's Studio).

"To me, Art is something that connects us out of our small personal world and connects us to a more universal absolute realm. I see the act of making art as a happy kind of magic. There are many reasons why I work in glass instead of something plastic, like plexiglass. The foremost reason is ecological. Also, glass is magical. It is clear as water, strong like stone, transparent yet solid - glass can be invisible and yet act as a barrier. Being a synthesis of opposites, it is an ideal media for physical human beings to express their spiritual nature and to create a feeling of the sacred.  It can seem as serene and clear as water or as dangerous as a knife. Glass is heavy and breakable, but it's so natural, so elemental and crystalline!

Grateful Body is another way I take care of myself. I really don't want to put icky chemicals on my body. When I use Grateful Body products, I feel like I'm in the land of truth -- I know what it's made of, I know it's all good for me, and I feel good about myself. I love the Essential Eye Creme, Moisture Monsoon (that's really what it is - so much good stuff comes in that bottle!), Aphrodite's Feast, and the Moisturizer for Dry Skin. I like to keep the moisturizer in my purse and moisture-up whenever I feel like it, instead of coating myself with a sunscreen I don't really know is safe for me. Also, Grateful Body never makes my face feel greasy. It does its job well and invisibly (like glass).

The process of making art makes me feel whole. To me, art is about being myself, believing in myself and taking care of myself. If I can't do my art for awhile, I start to feel out of balance. House of Mirror Reflections is a beautiful, crazy mirror and glass installation with movable walls and lights that change color as you pass near them. It's a pretty magical world in there, and it's all about seeing yourself and others in different ways, in different colors, and from different perspectives - especially positive, happy ones! I'll be drawing portraits there, and you can make portraits and self-portraits, too."
